Steam. Soak.
Restore.
Natural hot spring vapor caves, private mineral baths, massage, body wraps and scrubs. A bath since the 1890s.
A steam sauna
in the
mountain
A stairway inside our building leads down through a stone corridor into three rock chambers. Hot spring water runs through channels in the floor and makes the steam. Nobody heats it.
The caves are dark, wet and about 110 degrees. You sit on marble benches, breathe, and let the heat do the work. People have come down these stairs for it since the 1890s.
Ten minutes
at a time
- 1Rinse off, go down the stairs, and find a marble bench. Breathe.
- 2Stay about ten minutes. Step out sooner if you need to.
- 3Cool off: the cold shower in the caves, the cooling room, or the solarium upstairs. Drink water.
- 4Go back down. Your visit is two hours, so there is no rush. Most people do it three or four times.
It’s dark, it’s hot and it smells like a hot spring, because it is one.
Your own tub,
the same water
The hot spring water that heats the caves, run into a deep soaking tub in a private room. The only place in Glenwood Springs to soak in it alone.
Thirty or sixty minutes. The tubs fit two, so a bath on one reservation is shared unless you ask for separate tubs. Add rosemary and lavender oils if you like.
Make a day
of it
Each package is the caves, a private mineral bath and a treatment, in the right order, for less than booking them one by one. The most-booked visit we have is the simplest one: Cave & Soak.

Our building is old and small. Massages, scrubs and facials happen in separate rooms booked at the same time when we can; wraps, the Body Detox and mineral baths are shared spaces for two unless you ask otherwise.
Good hands,
after the heat
Every massage comes with two hours in the vapor caves. Go down first: warm muscles take the work better.
Guests must be 18 or older for massage, wraps and scrubs.
The body
rituals
Steam first. Then lie down, and let someone finish what the heat started.
The caves open the skin, and the half hour after is when it takes the most. A wrap or a scrub then is the part of a visit people talk about on the drive home. Each one runs the same way every time: the caves, the treatment while you are still warm, then rest in the room with nothing to do.
Every wrap and scrub includes cave time. Book one on its own, or take it inside a package and turn the wrap into a scrub for $15.
Good to know
- Reserve first. Reservations are required for everything, including the caves. Weekends fill up.
- Arrive on time. For a service, check in 15 minutes early. You can come up to an hour early to use the caves first.
- Bring a swimsuit. It’s required. Sandals and a water bottle (no glass) are a good idea.
- We provide towels, lockers, showers, shampoo and body wash. A robe comes with every spa service. Sandals on request.
- Paying. You pay when you book. Cancel more than 24 hours ahead for a full refund.
- After. The solarium upstairs is for cooling down and doing nothing. Spa brain is real; give yourself a minute before you drive.
- Hot rooms aren’t for everyone. If you’re pregnant, have a heart condition or have been drinking, sit the caves out or ask your doctor first.
- Tribal members of any tribe: ask at the desk about complimentary cave access.
Yampah means
Big Medicine
It is a Ute word. The Ute people knew this water long before there was a town, and the name stayed with the spring.
The water comes out of the mountain at about 125 degrees and runs under the cave floor the way it did before anyone built here. It is about half as salty as the sea; you will taste it on your lips. The sulfur is the smell.
Milligrams per liter, measured May 2025.
The caves have been a bath since the 1890s, when the chambers were enlarged by hand and doctors sent patients here for the heat. The marble benches are the same idea they had then.
Take a piece
home
Two things worth the room in your bag: our water bottles, and a crystal from the shelves.
No booking needed. Ask at the front desk, before or after the caves.
